Medspray has joined forces with @PCV Group and @Unitron to pioneer an active humidifier that redefines precision in respiratory humidification. By regulating absolute humidity rather than relative humidity, this breakthrough approach ensures stable, controlled conditions, independent of ventilator type / brand, ventilation mode / pattern or external factors. Suitable for all patients, without condensation in the breathing circuit.
Bench testing has shown that existing heated humidifiers deliver suboptimal humidity, typically reaching only 35-36 mg/L (80-82% RH at 37 ˚C) for standard adult invasive ventilation patterns. While optimal humidification means 44 mg/L (100% RH at 37 ˚C). Many ventilation patterns that we tested showed absolute humidity values close to the minimum level of 33 mg/L for active humidifiers. At these low levels of humidification, mucociliary disfunction occurs. This leads to:
- slowing down or stopping mucociliary transport
- dry airways, thicker secretions
- increased risk of infection
- reduced gas exchange efficiency and potential for pulmonary endothelial stress
