Pre filled syringe inhaler
Medspray is developing a new platform of soft mist inhalers, based on a pre-filled syringe format. Utilising standard filling lines is key to the platform, with very good stability of the drug formulation during shelf life. The inhaler has an exceptionally high lung dose, more than 50% of the metered dose.
Benefit of the pre filled syringe format is a minimum waste: virtually no priming is needed and the syringe can be emptied almost completely, which is especially good for expensive drug formulations.
The device is ready for the upcoming wave of biologic drugs via the inhaled route. The glass syringes give great stability to the drug formulation during shelf life. The volume of the inhalation spray is 50 microliter per puff. Depending on the solubility, the drug load per puff can be really high, e.g. 10 mg metered dose per puff.

Also drugs for systemic action can be inhaled with the PFSI inhaler. Thanks to the high dose in the deep lung, a large amount of drug gets in the systemic circulation very fast. For example this can be beneficial for migraine treatment.
