Trachospray innovation

Medspray Anesthesia’s Trachospray product was presented at the 2019 innovation awards of the World Airway Management Meeting in Amsterdam.

Soft mist spray device

Together with Radboud University Medical Center Nijmegen, Medspray has developed a medical device for local anesthesia of a patient’s oropharynx and upper trachea. Prof. dr Jörgen Bruhn and dr. Geert-Jan van Geffen invented the concept of an aerosol inhaler, delivering just a small fraction of the aerosol to the lungs and mainly covering the mucosa of mouth and throat, down to the vocal cords.

The topical anesthesia is needed to make intubation or bronchoscopy tolerable for the patient. Current practice, a spray pump, followed by an elongated spray tube, requires skill and often uses different concentrations of the anesthetizing liquid. The ‘Trachospray’ device delivers the local anesthesia evenly over the patients oropharyngeal mucosa.

Patient Comfort

The ‘Trachospray’ device is easy to use and easy to teach. The medical professional prepares a syringe with an anesthetic, approved for oropharyngeal delivery and connects the syringe to the device.
The patient is asked to take slow aspirations through the mouth using the devices’ mouthpiece, while the medical professional empties the the syringe.

A quick and easy way to apply local anesthetics to the right area.
